Create the Most Value in Life

Participants at the Men's Caledon conference

From October 18-21, a total of 62 men gathered for the Men’s Group Caledon Conference at the SGI Canada Caledon Centre for Culture and Education. Under the conference theme  "Living With Courage Toward a Brilliant Future," the men shared experiences and studied on Nichiren Buddhism.

SGI President Ikeda sent a heartwarming message to the conference encouraging the participants to look toward the future and live lives that create the most value and greatest hope.

The men, who came from across the country, got to know each other well and generated a true bond of friendship. The unified powerful sound of the men chanting together was like a lion's roar full of determination to share the practice of the SGI with others.

In small discussion groups they shared their experiences in using the practice of Buddhism and discussed the meaning behind several of President Ikeda’s writings. As one participant said, "Every man who spoke demonstrated how the power of conviction develops into a profound confidence in one's faith."

In addition there was a Q&A session led by SGI Canada General Director Tony Meers that informed and inspired the men to move forward in their lives. He encouraged everyone to think about how best we can create the refreshing spirit we get at these Caledon conferences in our local areas.

During one session, there were eight in-depth experiences. One heartfelt experience was about a father's son who, although in serious trouble with the law, not only managed to gain the understanding of the court but also was able to begin a new life using the practice of Buddhism. As one man put it, "The joy of so many men sharing their struggles and victories was uplifting and encouraging."

SGI Canada Men's leader Ian Mattinson said, "The unity, joy and brotherhood of this gathering is unlike anything I've ever experienced. I look forward with great excitement toward the next phase of our growth."
