Eastern Region District General Meetings in November

By Nick LoPresti (Halifax) and Dwight Rudisuela (Ottawa)

Eastern Region held 21 district general meetings during the month of November including meetings in Eastern Ontario and the Atlantic Area. Over 280 attended these meetings including 50 guests. Nine people officially joined SGI Canada at this time.

Many meetings featured youth participation, presentations on Buddhism and cultural performances. At all the meetings there was much sharing about the benefits of practising Buddhism, as we celebrated the 87th anniversary of the founding of the Soka Gakkai movement, November 18 and SGI President Daisaku Ikeda's upcoming 90th birthday.

At Ottawa's Beechwood district over 30 participants witnessed three people officially join SGI. The sharing of experiences at this meeting and all the other Ottawa Area meetings were moving and encouraging.

In Atlantic area, Halifax's East Wind District, four youth officially joined SGI Canada. All the new practitioners spoke with conviction, joy and gratitude about the positive changes in their lives since beginning to practice. The meeting ended with a birthday party honouring President Ikeda.

In New Brunswick, the Grand Falls District also sang "Happy Birthday" to President Ikeda complete with a cake at the end of their meeting that included practitioners from Edmundston and Fredericton and the SGI video “Our Shared Humanity.”

Spirited meetings were held in other cities as well including Belleville and Kingston in Ontario, New Glasgow in Nova Scotia, Moncton, Saint John and Gladwyn in New Brunswick and St. John's Newfoundland.

Eastern Region practitioners shared a sense of gratitude towards the practice of Buddhism and are determined to share this Buddhism with others in the coming months ahead.
