Living with Courage Toward a Brilliant Future

Calgary's Lotus district men's meeting
From the end of August and into September, the men in SGI Canada held their annual general meetings that coincided with August 24, 1947, the day when SGI President Daisaku Ikeda joined the Soka Gakkai in Japan. The theme for the meetings this year was "Living with Courage Toward a Brilliant Future." Some 740 men attended the meetings that were held at the district and chapter level.

Participants read and discussed the editorial by President Ikeda "Leading Lives We Can Be Proud Of." In the editorial, President Ikeda encourages men to be like the great ocean, calmly dedicating their lives to fulfilling their vow to realize kosen-rufu—spreading hope and the respect for the dignity of life.
The meetings included the sharing of personal experiences from one's Buddhist practice, some cultural performances and further informal discussions. The warmth and openness of men in the SGI as demonstrated at these meetings was impressive to many.
This year the men are especially determined to advance kosen-rufu in Canada and provide a beacon of hope in society that is in dire need of it.
