SGI Canada Men Determined to Breakthrough
By Dwight Rudisuela, Ottawa

“Breakthrough!” was the theme of this year's men's general meetings held from the end of August and into September.
The men practitioners of SGI Canada hold these meetings at this time of year to celebrate the day, August 24, 1947 when SGI President Daisaku Ikeda joined the Soka Gakkai in Japan. The meetings were held at the district and chapter level for the most part and were both a celebration and a cause for future growth.
In some districts where there are few men practising, they successfully challenged themselves to have guests and many of those are starting to take up the practice of Buddhism.
At the meetings, participants read and discussed the message from SGI Canada Men's Leader Ian Mattinson in which he explained his own personal breakthrough by using the practice and said, "I pray that we all savour the great satisfaction that comes with breaking through!"
The men also shared their personal life-changing experiences from their Buddhist practice and guests were impressed by their openness. Many meetings included some cultural performances.
The men's group meetings provided a positive view of life and a beacon of hope for everyone.
