From July 21-23, SGI Canada Women's leader Helen Izumi-Choi visited Vancouver. Helen wanted to meet as many women as possible so from the moment her plane touched down she was on the move with individual home visits included a member in palliative care. The Vancouver Culture Centre was a hub of activity too with personal encouragement, district leader meetings and a very special meeting with an all women’s group meeting. The meetings were so heartfelt and encouraging. Out-of-towners included one women’s group leader from Hope, BC and a woman from Kamloops who travelled five hours by bus with a young woman who officially joined SGI Canada.
Helen really encouraged us all to read The New Human Revolution. She said that in that book we can find the answers to many of our questions. Many districts have started studying it as part of their monthly agenda. I too am re-reading with it with new eyes and a new understanding.
Helen recounted and opened up with her own struggles and experiences; she really brought the spirit of mentor and disciple home to us. Many participants gave their heartfelt thanks to Helen for coming. Such an amazing weekend! We are all going to our best to reply with our best effort.
