Young Mothers Meeting in Toronto

By Junko Takahashi, Toronto

On April 7, the first Young Mothers meeting of the year was held at the SGI Canada Culture Centre in Toronto. There were 11 young mothers or mothers-to-be with 12 young children and babies.

The emcee cheerfully welcomed everyone to the meeting followed by energetic chanting. An ice-breaker paved the way for everyone to get to know about each other a little more. Everyone was then treated to a lovely story about world peace from the book Paulie Pastrami Achieves World Peace.

Afterwards, we had a session on parenting based on guidance from President Ikeda, followed by a deeply empowering group discussion.

We were very grateful to have the support of a women’s leader who imparted wonderful words of encouragement, as well as the behind-the-scenes support of two young fathers.

One of the children closed the meeting by leading the chanting of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo three times.

The participants left with renewed determination to not be defeated by their daily challenges of parenthood.
