President Harada’s Editorial: “Joyfully Writing Our Own Dramas of Human Revolution”
In his editorial in the December issue of Daibyakurenge, the Soka Gakkai monthly study journal, Soka Gakkai President Minoru Harada recalls working with Ikeda Sensei on the daily installments of The Human Revolution and The New Human Revolution:
One day, I went to the Soka Gakkai Headquarters to hand the proofs to President Ikeda, received the manuscript for the next instalment, and then returned to the office. Immediately after, a new pair of socks was delivered to me. President Ikeda had noticed that my socks had holes in them. I was so moved by our mentor’s care and concern for this small detail in the appearance of a new employee.
The driving force behind President Ikeda’s writing was his desire to encourage members and to make the greatness of his mentor, Josei Toda, widely known. As a faithful disciple in total unity with his mentor, and as the mentor of our kosen-rufu movement protecting members all over the world, he continued to selflessly devote himself to his writing. His very struggle to continue writing was itself a magnificent human drama.
Our mission as President Ikeda’s disciples is to engrave in our hearts the spirit of the three generations of mentor and disciple embodied in each and every sentence he wrote, to put it into practice, and to inscribe our own dramas of human revolution in our lives. By doing so, we too can demonstrate the greatness of our mentor, and this will also become a message of hope for future generations.
Taking pride in the fact that our daily kosen-rufu activities are a great historic undertaking, let us joyfully walk the great path of happiness!
The complete editorial can be found in the January 2025 issue of New Century.

New Year’s Gongyo on January 1
Nichiren Daishonin says: “New Year’s Day marks the first day, the first month, the beginning of the year, and the start of spring. A person who celebrates this day will accumulate virtue and be loved by all, just as the moon becomes full gradually, moving from west to east, and as the sun shines more brightly, travelling from east to west.” (WND-1137)
SGI Canada practitioners will be holding New Year’s Gongyo meetings across the country on January 1. Please contact your local leaders to find out the details in your location.
