Prairie Region Leaders Visit Winnipeg
By Maxine Stewart, Winnipeg
Prairie Region leaders, Ian Mattinson and Paula Reich were welcomed to Winnipeg in December. It was a great day as the weather cooperated with our first big snowfall holding back until they were safely home.
At our final all-leaders meeting of the year we were encouraged by Ian to focus on how we can develop youth in 2017 in rhythm with the SGI theme of 2017, the Year of Developing Youth in the New Era of Worldwide Kosen-rufu. Ian reminded us of how SGI has actualized everything Nichiren Daishonin talked about and how Soka Gakkai Buddhism is illuminating the globe.
During the World Peace meeting the voices of the many new babies and children illustrated the rapid emergence of our future practitioners.
Paula reported to us of the tremendous growth, in her recent visit to Whitehorse, which is a direct response to the prayers and determination of the pioneer members there. We were inspired by their great accomplishment through faith, recognizing the power of each of us in the advancement of kosen-rufu.
Winnipeg practitioners shared their experiences of faith and offered a creative introduction to members and guests on the Buddhist view of happiness through a skit of the “One Eyed Turtle” illustrated from Nichiren’s writing
Five new leadership appointments were announced and we are confident that 2017 will reflect our strong collective determination to respond to President Ikeda's wish for the continued growth and advancement of kosen-rufu in Winnipeg and in Canada.
