During the month of November, hundreds of SGI Canada district meetings from Halifax to Victoria celebrated the 88th anniversary of the founding of the Soka Gakkai. It was particularly momentous because the goal of having 10,000 practitioners was reached this month. This was a great increase since the goal was made two years ago when the membership was near 8,000. The united efforts of the Canadian practitioners based on the spirit of mentor and disciple resulted in a complete feeling of victory. As SGI Canada practitioners, a key to the practice of Nichiren Buddhism is to instill the principles of respect for the dignity of life in our communities so that the peace and security of every individual is realized. Based on this important point, practitioners strove to share Buddhism with their friends and family.

The November meetings were characterized by larger than normal attendance with lively songs and other cultural presentations that made the meetings enjoyable. However, it was the experiences of personal victories that inspired everyone to put their faith into practice to overcome their own challenges. The experiences of those who had just joined SGI Canada were particularly encouraging. One new practitioner said that since he had started chanting his whole life has changed for the better and is now able to challenge his problems rather than be upset by them.

With determination and energy, SGI Canada is looking forward to 2019 named as the "Year of Soka Victory—Toward Our 90th Anniversary" with abundant chanting for our own growth and contributing to the happiness of our communities and others.
