On February 4, two Calgary Chinese language districts, Fortune and Victory, held a joint meeting to usher in the Year of the Golden Rooster. The meeting began with energetic chanting, followed by the reading of President Ikeda’s message and the New Year’s Gosho.
With fellow practitioners and invited guests of all ages, the meeting continued with sharing how each one of us started this practice and how it changed our lives. This sharing of heartfelt and moving experiences touched everyone who attended.
The men’s group presented a tai chi and martial arts demonstration—an energetic show performed to the backdrop of a Chinese folk song. Everyone also participated in a challenging game on guessing Buddhist terms and Gosho passages.
With new determination each practitioner vowed to do their best, together with our mentor, to introduce friends and family to Buddhist practice.
The meeting ended with the singing of a Chinese New Year song as there was great joy and excitement in ringing in the Year of the Golden Rooster and advancing SGI’s Year of Developing Youth in the New Era of Worldwide Kosen-rufu.
